The Baltic Chain

On 23rd of August 1989 2 million people joined hands to form a 600 km long chain of people reaching from the capital of Lithuania - Vilnius to the capital of Estonia - Tallinn. The event was organized as a peaceful demonstration demanding independence for the Baltic countries. It took another two years before the countries regained their independence, but the demonstration was allowed to continue to it's end without violence. This stone plate has been placed in Riga to commemorate that day and I happened to stumble upon it by sheer accident this February.
