Yuka Zambia

Remaining shots from an exciting work visit to the remote area of YUKA in the south west of Zambia some 30 years ago. Getting there was quite an adventure in those days. I remember four means of transport: regular plane from Gaborone (then my permanent station) to Lusaka, from Lusaka to an unkonwn air strip by Cessna, from there by boat on the Zambezi and the rest by 4WD vehicles. As part of a larger development programme we conducted an awareness camp in that community to combat Trachoma - an ailment which finally leads to blindness if not treated. The programm focussed on first treatment (ointment), surgical intervention (lid surgery) but also community awareness (water, sanitation & hygiene). I found these slides wrongly sorted - hence the late addition to the respective album which I uploaded already some yrs back.
