Newcomer of the Week: shufi

Shufi had been browsing the website for inspiration for years before finally she finally created her own LomoHome. Her endless research and strong passion for film photography finally bore fruit when the community recognized her talent and hailed her as one of October’s most popular newcomers. Meet our newcomer of the week from Jakarta, Indonesai, Shufi Handhayani!

Shufi Handhayani aka shufi

Name: Shufi Handhayani
LomoHome: shufi
Location: Jakarta, Indonesia

Please tell us a little something about yourself.

I work in a digital advertising agency in Jakarta. I started shooting film around four years ago, when I was still in college. My first camera was a Holga. Since then, taking photos with analogue cameras has become my personal hobby and I post most of them on my blog. It’s addictive!

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I’ve been using some lomo cameras and I also do little ‘research’ on the website before buying any cameras or films. Though I often browse the website as inspiration for years, I only managed to sign up just about last month.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Rule #1: Take your camera everywhere you go. And especially when you’re traveling!

In this digital age, why still film?

The excitement I feel from purchasing new films, loading and unloading them, and waiting for the result. Sometimes I’d forgot what I had taken and the result is often a surprise! This is something that you wouldn’t get with a digital camera.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

Pentax Espio Mini. It’s quite small and light but it produces very sharp images. It’s my favorite camera to bring when hiking and traveling! Also, my Holga 135BC because it was my first analogue camera.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

I like taking landscape panorama shots so I think the LC-Wide, which has nice features and light weight, is the answer.

Any song or movie you live by?

I listen to a lot drum and bass, and chiptune songs. When it comes to movie, it’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty! It’s a combination of the working life, passion, adventure, and analogue photography.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

It’s not only about the photo but also the story behind it. It was taken during my four-day of trek up Mount Rinjani, the third highest mountain in Indonesia.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

There are many lomographers who inspire me. They’re all awesome and have their own uniqueness.
