Name: Wei Wu

Location: Taipei, Taiwan

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

Hi I’m Wei from Taiwan, based in Taipei city. I'm a cat lover, and I have two cats with me. I started shooting film photographs since 2011, and I use both monochrome and color film. Kodak Tri-X and Fujifilm Pro 400H are my favorite films. My cameras are two Nikon FM2 (one loaded monochrome film and color film for the other), Rolleiflex 2.8D, and Polaroid Land Camera model 180 and 250. My subjects are mostly my girlfriend, my friends, and landscapes.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I’ve been looking for a photo community with analog photographs, and this is it!

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Absolutely Rule#1.

I always take my cameras anywhere I go. Especially when I travel overseas, I always take three cameras with me (two Nikon FM2 and one Rolleiflex 2.8D), plus a tripod, sometimes. Those actually kill my back, but I’m not going to give up as long as I could still carry them.

In this digital age, why still film?

Film is not dead, and will never be. To me, digital and film are so different, each could never take the place of another. I love film photography more is because it brings me the feeling of timeless and emotion.

Your favorite analog camera as of the moment? Why?

My Rolleiflex 2.8D. As a medium format camera, it is very easy to carry with but also provides excellent quality.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

Lomo’Instant Wide. I’m still using Fujifilm FP-100C but If I couldn’t buy it anymore. I’ll use Lomo’Instant Wide + Fujifilm Instax Wide film instead.

Any song, book, or movie you live by?

Vivian Maier’s photo books. Can’t imagine that those stunning photos were taken by a woman in 1950s. I always get inspired when every time I read her photo books. I chose the Rolleiflex as my first medium format camera is also because of her.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

This one is an unexpected surprise. That evening, my friend Chris and I were moving to the next destination of our NZ journey. We pulled up the car to a lake surrounded by beautiful hills and trees. When we got closer, this beautiful huge yellow tree across the lake caught our eyes. The blue sky, pink clouds, yellow tree and the reflection made the view so breathtaking. I could still feel the moment we stood there whenever I see this photo.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

@007-0815-styler

His instant film photos are cute! And I’m currently into instant film photography. Hopefully, my work will be as good as his someday.
