Around the World in Analogue: the Wandlitzsee and the Briesetal

The state of Brandenburg has a played crucial role in European history. Being one of the most populous German states, the area is also rich in culture and architecture. However, Brandenburg is also famous for being the escapist's sanctuary. With over 3000 lakes and thick forests, the state hosts magical landscapes and natural reserves -- untouched by man. Lomographer Gudrun, a.k.a. @guja is among the enjoyers of its natural blessings.

Last Christmas, they went on a walk to the Wandlitzsee, a lake in Wandlitz, and Briesetal, a river located in Brandenburg. Using her Holga 120 N and LomoChrome Metropolis 120, the photographer captured these vintage-looking images on days when the temperature was dropping between -6 ° C and -10 ° C. " Maybe that's why most of the photos are blurred", said Gudrun, referring to the "shivering" effect that seems to just add more magic and mystery on the series. The Wandlitzsee and the Briesetal are north of Berlin and can be reached by car from our flat in less than half an hour. Since the weather was very nice over the Christmas holidays, we took the opportunity to spend the first day at Wandlitzsee and on the second day to visit the Briesetal. Although it was sunny, it was also very cold, so I mostly had to take photos with gloves. I think that's why a lot of the photos are a bit blurred.

I actually like taking pictures with old cameras, but in the past, I had the experience that the mechanics (shutter and aperture) often no longer worked in cold temperatures. That's why I decided to take a camera that has very simple mechanics and chose the Holga. I chose the LomoChrome Metropolis because it has a wide exposure latitude, which is an advantage in the low winter sun. In addition, I always like the colorfully interesting results of the Metropolis.

I think the most beautiful is the Briesetal with the trees standing in the water, it looks a bit like an enchanted place. Since the place is not far from Berlin, it is always a photographically interesting walk at any time of the year.

Finally, I would recommend doing one or the other photo walk even in winter, regardless of whether it is cold or cloudy. I think that the Metropolis, in particular, delivers very surprising and atmospheric colors at this time of year.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, I have not been able to travel in the last 2 years. That's why my photo excursions are limited to walks in Berlin and the surrounding area. This also affects photography. I miss traveling and getting to know new places and capturing them photographically or the opportunity to meet up with other Lomgraphers for a joint photo walk.
