Yoo Myung-gon's First Impressions of the LomoChrome Color '92 ISO 400 Film

Korean photographer and product designer Yoo Myung-gon recently tested out our new LomoChrome Color ‘92 ISO 400 (35 mm) film. He hit the streets of Seoul, capturing the contrast of new and old architecture in the heart of the city. Check out all his photos and his impressions of this brand new film below.

Hello! Welcome to Lomography Magazine. Can you please introduce yourself?

Hello. I am Yoo Myung-gon and I'm a product designer. As a hobby, I shoot film using various cameras and film stocks and upload the photos to my Instagram.

Why did you choose this setting to test the new LomoChrome Color '92 ISO 400 Film?

It's not a general color film, but a distinctive film, so I wanted to capture the image of the old city and the daily lives of the people living there. The new LomoChrome Color '92 film captures the cold but warm old city.

What do you think of the look of the LomoChrome Color '92 ISO 400 film?

The part that impressed me is the shadow detail. If you look at the photos taken around noon, the sunlight is strong, so the shadows come out dark and the details are lost. I don't like high-contrast photos, so I pay a lot of attention to shadow details. The new LomoChrome Color '92 film has quite good shadow detail, allowing me to shoot with the color and feel I like.

Do you have a favorite photo taken with this film?

I like the photos taken on steep hills. It's my favorite place, and it's a place where you can tell the difference between a developing city and an old city with distance and color. Cities are blue and older cities are a bit darker orange. I like shooting on hills like this because it gives a sense of space.

What is your favorite thing about this film?

I liked the cold but warm color. Although it is vintage, the saturation is not low, and it has strong characteristics, but it is a film that can be used in any environment. Also, the ISO sensitivity is 400, so it was good to be able to take pictures in various environments.

What do you think about a new color negative film coming to the market?

Whenever I hear the news that one or two films have been discontinued I think, 'can I continue taking pictures of film?' I feel relieved when I hear the news that new films like this are coming out.

What do you think is the perfect situation to shoot with this film?

I think it would be very good for taking pictures of old places. It seems that the saturation is low, but the high color seems to go well with old alleys or buildings.

What camera did you use for this shoot?

I used Canon QL17 GIII. 1/500 was the maximum, so it was overexposed on a sunny day, but I liked the color better when I pushed it 1 stop.

What are your hopes for the future of film photography?

Film photography has a charm that cannot be matched and expressed by digital photography. Even when I get older, I want to continue to shoot with film, and I want other people to be able to continue taking film pictures as well.
