Around St Paul's Cathedral, London

Now that I finally have a scanner (an Epson Perfection V600), I decided to re-scan an album from July 2012 that the lab did such a horrible job on, which resulted in the purple monstrosities here: bit.ly/VHkFTr See the difference...? My new scans are straight from the scanner, with all possible adjustments in the scanner software switched off, and no post-processing was done, except for a bit of rotate & crop on a few 'cos I didn't align the negatives perfectly on the scanner glass. I think I'm gonna like this machine...! ;-)

    Stunning! Incredible difference no? What I can't understand, is when the image comes out this lovely with no effort at all - why do the photo techs tweek with it and make it so ugly?
    Happy Christmas and congrats on the scanner (same as mine). I love scanning more than shooting…

    Those look really good. It depends on the camera lens, the film and the processing, but I can't usually get that good of a contrast in my Epson V500 without a small adjustment or two in the prescan. I try to do as little as possible however.

    @clickiemcpete: I set the dpi to 2400 and the output format to TIFF (as advised by @gauthierdumonde), but everything else was in default factory settings. I could see already from the preview scan that they were much better than the lab version, so there was no need to tweak anything else. Who knows, maybe it was just beginner's luck ;-) Thanks for your comment and likes, Pete.
