My first tintypes, (very roughly) inspired by Alice in Wonderland

4x5 Dry-Plate Tintype, taken with a Graflex Crown Graphic.
This obviously is a digital shot but I included it because I think the plate itself is part of the charming aesthetics of tintpyes and it cannot be scanned properly. For those of you who might be wondering what this actually is: this is a tinplate, clothed dark and covered with a sensitive photo emulsion. The plate is then put into a plate carrier (in my case an average film holder for my large format camera) and exposed, then developed. Basically inspired by the way they used to do it in the "olden days"; when no photo paper was around, only dry-plates (and before that wet plates). This is a dry plate, meaning you coat the plate with the emulsion and let it dry BEFORE you expose it as opposed to exposing and developing when still wet (like with the famous wet plate collodion process).
