Turunku village in Kaduna State is one of the earliest Zazzau settlements and home to the tomb of Bakwa, the 22nd ruler of Zazzau, who was the founder of the ancient kingdom. The town also plays host to numbers of cultural and historical attractions that can qualify it for the World Heritage list. Travel & Leisure visited the town recently and discovered that its countless historical attractions are in distress and the area itself presented a picture of abandonment. A visit to Turunku village, in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna brings you closer to the stirring history of Zazzau, now called Zaria. It is said that it is impossible to trace the roots of Zaria without revisiting Turunku as one of the earliest settlements of Zaria people before their present place of abode, hundreds of years back. #westafrica #northernnigeria #nigeria #africa #photo #journalism #documentery #research #history
