almost a kid

This is my 9-year old cousin. At her age, she should be playing, laughing, and creating childhood memories with her friends. But pandemic happened, and now she had no one her age to do these with. On weekends, when it's almost sunset, she would ask me to stroll around our village as this is her only chance to go out the whole week. And before heading home, she would ask me to drop by the playground. If she's lucky that there are no other kids playing, I would allow her to play. Seeing from afar that there is nobody else, she would excitedly ask for the alcohol (disinfectant), then run towards it. This is also the only time I can see her doing what kids should do - play as if there's no tomorrow, tirelessly climbing up and sliding down the slides, pushing herself really hard on the swing, trying her best through the monkey bars, and just purely enjoying herself, doing what she's been anticipating to do the whole week. This makes me sad. The pandemic really changed everyone's lives, kids' included. It stole the chance to experience real childhood from our kids - to be young and free, to be careless, to have that one childhood best friend, to be happy without fear, and to be just a kid.

Life As It Happens

Life can happen in a blink of an eye - good thing we have our film cameras to rely on to make moments last a little longer.
