I like the compact, almost claustrophobic, composition. Is this part of a lock/canal system?

Yes it is. This series was made in east of France, where the "canal de la Marne au Rhin" and the "canal des Houillères de la Sarre" passes between lot of ponds. Thanks for all the likes. Take care of yourself during this difficult period.
