the Lenin statue was the tallest of its kind in Ukraine. It was removed in 2016, in a movement to ban soviet era symbols from city streets and parks. I remember that young ukrainian couples used to take "selfies" with it. Now it is an empty place, since nothing has replaced the statue.
Ironically, the statue was supposed to show the direction of hope and happiness with his raised hand ; as everyone could see, he was showing... the western direction 😄
