Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA

The Civil War ended in 1865, and by 1870, the remains of nearly 300,000 Union dead had been buried in 73 newly created national cemeteries, mostly in the US southeast, near the battlefields and campgrounds of the Civil War. In 1873, Secretary of War William W. Belknap adopted the first design for stones to be erected in national cemeteries, replacing the deteriorating wooden markers. Nov 2017 - ILFORD-HP5
