Trekka Ute

In the 70's NZ dreamed of making their own utility vehicles. A box design i was nfluenced by the famous Landrover. It was built on Skoda Octavia mechanicals with 50% local content . Assemblyed in Auckland it provided much needed jobs. A postscript was a complete Trekka rebuild as an conceptual art entry for NZ in the Venice Biennalial by Michael Stevenson a few years ago.

Amazing car, not many survived. Since the Trekka was imported in parts (and the other 50 % were added in NZ) it was more tax/custom friendly compared to the Landrovers. This made the car more affordable for the local users.
